Do as I say, not as I do

Jack Layton, the head of Canada's decidedly left-of-centre New Democratic Party has long been a champion of Canada's socialized medical system and has fiercely resisted any attempt to introduce widespread private medicine in the country.

So what happened when he needed hernia surgery in the mid-90's?

He goes to a private clinic, of course.

KC, you don't understand the nuances of the issue ;-) Public healthcare is for us, the little people. The chosen few, the enlightened ones, the sophisticated leadership cadre, they get the best. Mr. and Mrs. Mackenzie (or Mssr. and Mdme. Martel in PQ) will have to deal with the lines and the waiting. Don't you just love it when the government makes those decisions easy for us.
